From the minutes of the December 13, 2023 general meeting of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Georgia (GANS).

Issue N 2.

About the establishment of the "Union of Honorable Tbilisians".

 Speakers:

A  member of GANS - academician, honorary citizen of Tbilisi, Professor Irakli Pavlenishvili;

A  member of GANS - academician, the Deputy of the chief Academician-Secretary of GANS, Professor Tamar Berberashvili

Academician Irakli Favlenishvili, on behalf of the active members of GANS, academicians, who are also honorary citizens of Tbilisi, raised the issue of creating the Union of “Honorary Citizens of Tbilisi”.

He formulated the main goals and objectives of the "Honorable Citizens Union" of Tbilisi as follows:

• Creation of Tbilisi as a regional hub of culture, arts and sciences;
• Protection and preservation of cultural heritage, especially the cultural heritage of Tbilisi; its promotion in Georgia and beyond;
• Care and monitoring of Tbilisi ecosystem;
• Development of international relations in the field of culture, arts and sciences;
• Organizing regular events in the field of culture, sciences and arts, where "Honorary Citizens of Tbilisi" will be actively involved;
• Development of programs in cooperation with artists from various fields of art, cultural institutions, non-governmental and commercial organizations and individual artists;
• Promotion of creativity of young artists/scientists;
• Organization of exchange of the programs of arts and science development;
• Organizing/participating in concerts, competitions, festivals and other activities for promotion of sciences and arts;
• Implementation of effective social policy and charitable activities;
• Implementation of publishing, information and advertising activities in the field of culture, science and art;
• Promotion of publications in the fields of culture, sciences and arts;
• Introduction tradition of awarding on behalf of the Honorable Tbilisians Union;
• Establishing communication and cooperation with honorary citizens of the Georgian and other foreign cities.

           The participants in the debate, the academician-secretary of the department of medical sciences of GANS, Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi, Professor Archil Khomasuridze; Academician, Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi, Professor Roman Shakarashvili, Vice-President of the Academy, Academician-Secretary of Earth Sciences, Professor Aleksander Tvalchrelidze, Executive Vice-President of the Academy, member of the Council of GANS, Mr. Michael Cowgil, Academician of GANS, Professor Nugzar Dolidze and other speakers positively evaluated the initiative and supported the establishment of the Union of Honorable Tbilisians.

Academician of GANS, Professor Tamar Berberashvili, in her turn, introduced a proposal that the governing board of the Union of Honorable Tbilisians should be defined by 5 people, namely:

• Member of the Council of GANS, Revaz Asatiani, Honorable  Citizen  of Tbilisi (Member of the Governing Board);

• President of GANS, Honorable Citizen  of Tbilisi,  Paata Kervalishvili  (member and co-chairman of the Governing Board);

• Irakli Pavlenishvili, academician of GANS, Honorable Citizen  of Tbilisi (member and co-chairman of Governing Board);

• Irakli Kandashvili, Doctor of Law, member of the Council of the GANS (member of the Governing Board);

• Academician of GAND, Honorable Citizen  of Tbilisi, Professor Ramaz Kurashvili (member of the Governing Board).

The participants of the meeting fully agreed with the proposals of the speakers, on the basis of which it was decided:

1. "Union of Honorary Tbilisians" should be established by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Georgia.

2. To prepare appropriate documents and make the  relevant measures, the organization of which should be entrusted to the co-chairman of the Governing Board of the Union of Honorable Tbilisians, Mr. Irakli Pavlenishvili and the member of the Governing Board, Mr. Irakli Kandashvili.
